Community Consultation about Bells Proposal

St John's existing bell
St John’s Church is investigating the possibility of installing six or eight bells in its existing bell tower but before the project is given the go-ahead the church wants to listen to the views, comments and opinions of people in Dumfries, particularly residents near the church, to see what they think about the proposals.

On Saturday May 15 (11am) a public consultation session was held at the church where plans for the bells were outlined and people were able to give the church their views.

If a peal of bells is installed as well as being rung prior to the weekly 11am Sunday service they could ring out on various special events such as weddings, Remembrance Day, St Andrew’s Day and Hogmanay.

St John’s existing bell has recently been refurbished and is currently ringing prior to the 11.00am Sunday service.
